Last Sunday I was driving about wondering what to take photos of, struggling for inspiration I headed to one of my usual coastal spots and for some bizarre reason the car park at Portinfer was rammed with vehicles! After getting out to see what all the fuss was about a huge klaxon sounded and that told me that a surf contest had just started. Quick change of lens, clear the memory card, set the camera to 6 frames per second and off we go.
About 20 years and 4 stone ago I used to surf and ever since I have always been fascinated with the ocean. Luckily I am better with a camera than I ever was with a surf board but I still enjoyed it..................even if I never did get a tube!
Over the years Guernsey has never exactly been known for large surf but last Sunday it delivered in style, whilst the waves were not exactly North Shore, Hawaii sized they were heavy & far more than I could have handled.
Fair play to the guys who took it on and pulled off some pretty impressive displays. I was just delighted to stumble upon the competition purely by chance and then find a nice rock to position myself. Here are the results of my efforts and hopefully these shots do justice to the size of the waves & skill of the competitors.
